Class 6S - Science
Flower experiment
For a science week we have done a science experiment to see what would happen if we placed a freshly cut bunch of carnations into different food colouring. On one of the carnations we split down the middle and put it in a red and a blue food colouring and the flower petals have turned red.
Balloon experiment

Year 6 blew up balloons that had air in and another filled with water. We went outside and we were in groups of 2 small pieces of cardboard and stuck the air filled balloons to the bottom piece of cardboard we put another piece of cardboard on top.1 person stood on the air filled balloons while people held them up and 1 person popped the balloons after. We did the same with the water balloons and we wanted to know what state was better. We found out that the water balloons were better that the air filled balloons. The water balloons were denser than the air balloons.
The explorer dome
We went into a big dome and learned about space the fun way. We all sat in a circle and learned about the planets and the stars even the dwarf planets we learned about what happened when a star dies and how a star forms we learned load and we also enjoyed it we all jumped when a star exploded but you wouldn’t hear it in real life though.
By Danika and Jess
What else did we get up during Science Week??
?
We learnt that when yeast is fermented it releases enough carbon dioxide to partially inflate a balloon. Eventually the solution will turn into alcohol.

We built ‘Towers of Strength’ using only wooden sticks, spaghetti and marshmallows!! We found the triangular structure was the best base to use.
