Class 5S - Science Week

Science week was very exciting and we learned lots of new and amazing facts. Visitors came in and talked to us about interesting hobbies such as: Bee Keeping, Astronomy and Chemistry. We even got a chance to go in the Exploradome!

Mr Campbell came in and spoke to us about his exiting job as a Bee Keeper. He showed us interesting pictures; brought in an actual hive and two people got to dress up as Beekeepers! He also told us some amazing facts including; a honeybee has only one sting; African killer bees cannot kill people but are just more aggressive and in the summer a queen bee lays at least 1000 eggs a day!

In the coke experiment Mr Shephard put one of these weird costumes and glasses. The experiment was that Mr Shephard put in mint mentos in a bottle of diet coke and then the mentos started to dissolve and then the coke went flying up in the air. And then we tried it again but it didn’t work because all of the fizz was gone.

Moon Talking!

A man came in to talk to us about the moon. He actually met one of the men who walked on the moon! Buzz Aldrin. We looked at what the journey looked like and felt like if you walked on the moon with models and did you know a rocket is bigger than the Suspension Bridge! When the men got onto the moon they said “one small step for man and big leap for mankind”. It was GREAT FUN!
