Class 4M - Science Week

We’ve just had science week. Here are some highlights from the week!

Medicine
On Monday Mrs Hewitt came in to talk to us about medicine. She told us why she became a doctor, how she became a doctor and what sort of doctors there are. Then she examined me because I am her daughter. After that we had a quiz.

Space
On Monday one of our school governors came in to talk about space. We learnt that in 1969 Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first humans to land on the moon, they went in their Saturn V rocket which was a whopping 363 feet tall. The visitor was called Richard Phillips and he had met Buzz Aldrin. He asked him which pen they used, when the switch fell off, it was the felt tip.
It was really exhilarating, especially when he wrapped someone up in toilet roll to be an astronaut.

Bees
On Thursday Brian Campbell came in to talk about bees. Here are some of the facts we have learnt:

We learnt more about forces in the explorer dome. We carried out lots of interesting investigations in the classroom for example making raisins dance, trying to overcome friction by pulling apart overlapping phone directories, identifying the hardboiled egg just by spinning them, balancing nails and making a DIY Zoetrope.

We also created volcanoes and made them erupt at the end of the week by using vinegar, food colouring and bicarbonate of soda!
