Class 3MW - Science Week

We had a fantastic time in Science week – every day was full of new and exciting activities! Here are just a few:

Backwell

Bee Keeping: Mr Campbell came to talk to us about bee keeping. The Queen bee has a drop ofgreen paint on her back so it is easier to recognise her. The male bees are called drones and the female bees are the worker bees.

3MW Science WeekTravelling to the moon:

Mr Phillips came to talk to us about space travel. The first people to walk on the moon were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Mr Phillips had met Buzz Aldrin!!

The rocket they travelled in was 363 feet tall!

Science Missions in class:

junior schoolChocolate: mission: to find out what makes chocolate dissolve faster and why!
We had to chew it, suck it and leave it on our tongues. We found out that chewing was fastest because more of the surface of the chocolate is in contact with your saliva!

Separating materials: mission : to separate beans, lentils, sand, salt and water. We used a sieve to separate the beans and lentils, we used filter paper to separate the sand from the salt and water and then we left the water to evaporate.

Moving cotton reels: mission: to move a cotton reel as far as possible using cotton reels, a piece of string, blu tack, elastic band and a piece of card. Ours moved 120cm!
